Software
It seems that very little of our development work is software free. We make good use of the advantages of microcontroller assembler/C and programmable logic. Microchip + Altera feature highest in our experience.
Just as in the hardware case of free (or nearly so) CAD for EDA, a customer benefits from the observability and controllability that come with IDE's and logic compilers that can be easily downloaded from silicon vendors.
We are particularly proud of our experience in compact algorithmic solutions, fixed-point DSP in 8-bit micros is so often a winning implementation strategy.
